HOLY COW!

You’ve heard it said that nothing is sacred?  We at FootageBank HD disagree.  In fact, our library brims over with evidence to the contrary.

Sacred status is often found in the eye of the beholder.  Witness the move in Congress to ban flag-burning.  For some pagans, the earth is a sacred place.  The Bible, the Veda and the Koran – each text is sacred to Christians, Hindus and Muslims, respectively.

There are sacred duties – the Pueblo fervently performing the Corn Dance, Sufi dervishes whirling, or the Quaker sitting in silence.  Nearly every religion requires some reverential attitude or action.  Orthodox Jews pray three times a day and Muslim prayer, or Salah, is performed facing Mecca fives times a day.

We like the free-spirited mode of sacred communication Buddhists employ through the prayer wheel.  Simply write a prayer on the wheel, set it spinning and go about your business.  The Dalai Lama has even sanctioned the use of computers as mechanisms for sending prayers heavenward.  Save the prayer or mantra to your hard drive and since it spins hundreds of thousands of times per hour… well, you do the math.

And what of that proverbial “sacred cow”?  Technically, it’s a taboo against eating beef, and cow’s milk still holds a major place in Hindu rituals.  Certain holy places in India enforce jail time for even injuring a cow.  What might seem quaint and exotic to some of us can have powerful effects in many realms, including the political.  Consider the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the British.  It was incited because the English-made bullets were greased with cow fat and since gunloading literally required “biting the bullet,” the devout Hindu soldiers were being forced to break a sacred religious belief.

At FootageBank HD we see service to our customers as sacrosanct.  And you can bet that whatever it is that you hold sacred, we’ve got images of it on High Definition.  To view and download some of our holier clips, click here.
